Poem of the Week

Under Pressure

Can't we give ourselves one more chance?

Why can't we give love that one more chance?

Why can't we give love
                                      give love
                                                      give love
                                                                      give love
                                                                                      give love
                                                                                                      give love
                                                                                                                      give love
                                                                                                                                      give love...
'Cause love's such an old fashioned word

And love dares you to care for the people

On the edge of the night.

And love dares you to change our way of

Caring about ourselves.

This is our last dance.

This is our last dance.

This is ourselves

Under pressure.

Confession: I don't really like to read poetry. I do enjoy listening to it, and if sung by Freddie Mercury and David Bowie, so much the better. Sometimes, when listening to a favorite song so many times, it becomes just background noise until you remember to pay attention to the lyrics and fall in love with the song all over again. When I hear these final lines of Under Pressure, it never fails to move me. Words mean different things to each person, and to me these words remind me to forgive myself especially when life gets rough and it feels like everything is falling out of control. We're only human; we can't expect to keep it together and neither can we expect others to always have it together, so we should be gentle with each other. That's good advice to live by. Be gentle with all people, and don't forget yourself.

And here are the words in all their glory:
